Dear Friends:

As a longtime supporter of Elliott Naishtat, I know that whoever succeeds him as District 49 representative in the Texas House of Representatives will need to meet the highest standard when it comes to fighting for progressive values.

After working for many years as an attorney and community volunteer to advance equal rights – and especially in my role over the past three years as trustee and now president of the AISD school board – I feel I have the right experience and the right values to live up to Elliott’s legacy and continue his fight.

That will mean working for meaningful reform on education, transportation and the environment, and standing up forcefully to ultra-conservatives in the Legislature as they continue their assault on the rights of women and families.

Over the months ahead, I’ll be reaching out to you and the rest of the Austin community to listen, to learn, and ultimately to try to earn your support.   My goal is to go the State Capitol in January 2017 with clear marching orders from YOU, and a plan to make real progress on the priorities we share.
