Austin, Texas - State Representative Gina Hinojosa was appointed by Speaker Dennis Bonnen to two House Committees. She will serve in a leadership role as Vice-Chair of Human Services and as a member of Defense and Veterans’ Affairs, an important committee because of its role in fulfilling our responsibility to our Veterans, and a committee with increased relevance to Rep. Hinojosa's district because of the recent University of Texas System’s collaboration with the Army Futures Command in downtown Austin.

Regarding her role on Human Services, Vice-Chair Hinojosa stated: ‘It is important that Austin maintain a leadership role in the area of health and human services given the critical healthcare needs of Travis County and the State. I am honored to continue in the tradition of my predecessor in office, State Representative Elliott Naishtat, who was Chair of the House Committee on Human Services. I pledge to dedicate myself to defending the basic health care rights of our most vulnerable Texans just as Representative Naishtat did for so many years."

In addition to preparing for the important issues to come before these committees, Representative Hinojosa has filed legislation to advance her legislative priorities, including meaningful school finance reform and charter school accountability (HB 43), accessibility for Long Acting Reversible Contraception (HB 30), gun safety reform (HB 95), and college campus voting (HB 375).
